A San Francisco man, Lamar Nolan Ryan, 42, has been hit with nearly nine years behind bars for possessing a loaded Glock, Federal officials announced Wednesday. Ryan, who was previously convicted of a felony, faced the justice system once more and was sentenced to 105 months in prison for breaking federal firearm laws, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey and heads of the FBI and ATF.

The conviction stems from an incident on July 1, 2023, when Ryan was caught with a loaded, hidden firearm, which had its serial number intentionally removed. Ryan was detained in South San Francisco after reports stated he was forcing a woman into sex work. The woman was discovered alongside him through her family’s use of cellphone tracking.

During his bench trial in December of 2023, the court learned that Ryan met the victim at a motel under the guise of a paying client and, after reversing the payment, pressured her into an agreement to sell sex under his control - promising her protection amongst the perils this dark trade entails. This tragedy of exploitation was uncovered by law enforcement and detailed in the prosecution’s sentencing memo. The brutality of the crime was explicated.

The sentence handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick comes alongside a three-year supervised release after Ryan completes his time in prison, as the case prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jared Buszin and Alexandra Shepard drew to a close with assistance from Maribel Gallegos. This result followed an extensive investigation by the FBI and ATF, according to the Department of Justice.
